Celebrating Diversity and All Things LGBTQ+ in Our Soaps

#ThePrinceAlbertBlog

Hello and welcome to my new soap blog: The Prince Albert!  If you are a viewer of Eastenders, you will recognise that this is the name of Kathy Beale’s gay bar on The Square, purchased in 2019 in honour of her son, Ben.  It felt like a good fit, as a base for my LGBTQ+ themed soap blog.  My plan is to discuss all things rainbow from tragic Paul in Corrie to pansexual Emma over in Letherbridge.  From my beloved Eve and Suki who have taken Albert Square by storm over the past year to Matty and Sally in Emmerdale and Hollyoaks ensuring that there cannot be any LGB without the T and nor should there ever be.

While it seems unlikely that dear old Home and Away will get many a mention, being that the last time a lesbian got mention was when Willow Harris ran off to Queensland to reunite with her true love, Dr Alex Neilson pointedly off screen in 2021.  And the time they tried to represent anything that wasn’t heterosexual went very badly, between Charlie Buckton and Joey Collins, way back in 2009.

However, it is with joy and rapture that we await the return of the ultimate rainbow family over in Erinsborough this year, after its brutal axing last year with at least three Queer characters confirmed to return – Chloe, Elly and Mackenzie.

So, with no further ado and with much excitement, I now pronounce this little gay blog… OPEN!
